[There's a very real feeling of shock sparking through the link-- Mara isn't accustomed to being contacted like this, not by just anyone. There's a sudden urge to kneel.]
[There's an image of two newborns, swaddled close together in matching cloth. Somehow, the knowledge that they're twins is self-evident.]
[The image is gone as soon as it appears. Mara stoppers the connection, and it shorts out entirely for a moment. When it returns, there's a strain. Mara is clearly putting deep pressure on the mental link to assure nothing else slides through unbidden. As a result, the connection is shaky, weak, but still there.]
(There's nothing of import you could have told me.)
[ Of course he's told her nothing. He has been furious with her for a week now, telling her nothing of Rey, nothing of the squabble over the lightsaber, not just with the scavenger girl but Ahsoka as well. Avoiding her ability to interfere, and now it seemed almost to actively strike out against anything that gave her any comfort or strength. Ilde's upset is selfish and all her own. Her perspective that Ren's failings are her fault is misguided, but... it is what it is. There's no untangling her from it now. ]
[ God if only Castor could get along they would be terrifying. As they are now they spend so much time in conflict they cannot work together towards any goal without their tensions poisoning it all. ]
(I am stronger with him.)
[ When he isn't actively undermining her or breaking her heart. ]
[Nothing could have repared her for that response. What does Mara Jade know of love? She knows of it like she knows of betrayal: it's something other people do, and it makes them foolish, but they seem to think it worthwhile in the end.]
[Still, there's something like a flinch over the link. Is this good? Is this bad? She has no idea. Is Jacen safe?]
[If she isn't sure, she has to make sure he is.]
(I'm sorry.) [Having no clue how to react beyond worry and sorrow, she frets.] (I should have guessed.)
[ She thinks of when Rey had been trying to understand what was happening, how Ilde had let her peer into the fabric of her relationships. The scavenger had seen Kylo Ren in that brief, vibrating, little vision but because it had been a vision of him quiet, soft, in need of humanity... she had not recognized him.
How was anyone meant to guess that there was a man underneath, one worth being loved? Not when he continued to show only teeth and hate.
This has all gotten terribly knotted terribly quickly, and Ilde's immense loneliness starts to hum, like the sound a deep cavern makes with the wind whispering through it. Anakin is dead. Angel is asleep. Ren is distant, threatening everyone who comes near him. She is trapped on this planet in this meaningless mission pretending to be someone she isn't. It is wearing her down, she can feel it start to overtake her and she has to... shut it off just like Mara does. ]
(In the next few mornings, I will meet you on the roof for your training.)
[ That is what she has control over right now, and that is what she turns all of her focus towards. ]
[Mara feels that loneliness as well, and recognizes it as something else nameless and innate they share. Mara has always been lonely. She doesn't notice it, because she's never been anything else. Inside her, the feeling has no name.]
[How strange, to find a part of her heart beating just as strong inside another.]
post-rennanigans
[ I mean just FYI she's not asking him that question. ]
the kylotastrophy of it all.
[It passes.]
( Yes. )
[Super chatty wow.]

[ It makes him sound like an ill-tempered animal. ]

[Which is a lovely way to sidestep that question.]

( I'm sorry. )
[ Unwilling to apologize for herself unless it is deeply worth it, but when it comes to making excuses for others... she is unfettered. ]

[Why be sad when you can be stubborn.]

[ No coincidence that she wants to know what Mara has to teach. She has a beast to stand up to. ]

[But at what cost? What happened to Jacen- to Kylo Ren. She ought to use the name he clearly prefers.]
( You shouldn't simply stand with someone because of strength. But I'm sure you'll say that's just the brood. )
[Being snippy and philosophical to hide hurt feelings? Why not.]

( Good. We'll run through the basics. )
